ADVOCACY Cur8tor | TUESDAY

Karin takes you on a ride through the world of disability advocacy in Washington DC.

Karin Hitselberger is an award-winning blogger and disability rights advocate currently based in Washington DC. Her work has been published across the globe, and translated into multiple languages. She believes in the power of one person’s story to change the world. She was named a Voices of the Year honoree by BlogHer and SheKnows Media for her now viral essay, “Why We Need to Talk about Kylie Jenner”. She has bachelors’ degrees in Communication Studies and Religious Studies from the University of Miami. She currently works in the nonprofit sector, and is pursuing a postgraduate degree in Disability Studies from the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom.

She has presented at numerous conferences and on panels throughout the United States. She has also done speaking engagements on various topics related to disability, including fashion and body image. Karin also does work and is involved in activism at the intersection of fashion, body positivity, and disability. Karin lives by the philosophy that activism and advocacy are not simply actions you take at specific points in time, but a way that you choose to live that impacts all areas of your life. She believes in the power of the selfie as a tool to change the way we see ourselves, and other people who may be largely ignored by mainstream media.
